UPDATE: Avalanche claims life of Telkwa man

B.C. Coroner, Barb Mclintock, confirmed the male victim of an avalanche near Stewart, B.C. was a resident of Telkwa.

B.C. Coroner Barb Mclintock confirmed the male victim of an avalanche near Stewart, B.C. was a resident of Telkwa.

He was Pat Lawrence Desmarais, aged 50.

The avalanche occurred Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in the late afternoon.

The victim was doing survey work, with another person who survived the avalanche, near Sulphurets Creek on behalf of Seabridge Gold, Rudi Fronk, Seabridge Gold chairman and CEO said in a press release.

Desmarais was swept away by the avalanche and fell 300 metres.
