UPDATE : Air quality advisory ended

The change in weather cleared the skies over Smithers and the Ministry of Environment has ended the air quality advisory.

The Ministry of Environment has ended the air quality advisory for Smithers, Burns Lake and Houston due to improving air quality that has resulted from a change in weather.

Smoke, from fires burning in eastern Asia and Siberia, cleared from the valley thanks to winds associated with the current weather system.

Pollutant concentrations and the associated health risk are now lower due to the changing weather conditions.
