Smithers water flushing will affect water to end of month

The Town of Smithers is in the middle of their yearly water main flushing and will be adding chlorine to the water until the end of the month.

Smithers Director of Works and Operations Wilf Taekema said that the chlorine offsets bacteria and silt that might be moved around through the flushing process.

The process began on Monday, May 2 and beginning next week the actual flushing will begin.

He said that people can let their water sit uncovered and the chlorine will dissipate and if people experience dirty water during the month they can run their taps a bit longer and it will clear up.
