RCMP are seeking information from the public.

A higher than normal amount of abandoned 911 calls were received by the Smithers RCMP in the past week.

Police are reminding the public to be vigilant in ensuring screens on their smart phones are turned off in pockets and purses as the majority of these calls were deemed as accidental or "pocket dial" calls.

Icy road RCMP truck crash

The Toyota truck was unable to negotiate a corner due to extremely icy road conditions. Neither driver was injured in the collision. The Toyota Tundra sustained significant damages.

Due to the adverse and ever-changing road conditions, motorists are encouraged to drive with greater caution, forgo the use of cruise control, give themselves additional time to get to appointments, and leave larger distances between vehicles. Conditions can be checked online at drivebc.ca with live cameras as well as report or update on major events.
