Sam Roberts Band and The Trews will play in Smithers instead of Telkwa

Despite being the winning community, Telkwa will not host the Canadian bands but will pass the challenge to Smithers for the concert.

The Trews will be in Smithers along with the Sam Roberts Band in August. The two bands are performing because of a win under a SiriusXM contest.

Residents in Telkwa won a concert for the community, as part of a contest called Face the Music, by SiriusXM.

Testing musical knowledge, the Internet-based contest rewarded the winners with free concerts in their community.

Telkwa, of all places, was the winner for the western part of Canada.

However, in a SiriusXM press release that came out today, it was revealed that the concert, featuring Sam Roberts Band and The Trews, will actually be held at the Fall Fairgrounds in Smithers.

The event is scheduled for August 11.

At a recent Telkwa council meeting when it was first noted that the community had won the concert, there was speculation that the logistics of the concert had to be worked out.

The other winning communities were Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, who will get a concert by Broken Social Scene and Bedouin Soundclash; Sussex, New Brunswich, which gets City and Colour and also k-os; finally Baie-Comeau, Quebec gets Marie-Mai and Alfa Rococo.

In today's media release, John-Angus MacDonald with the Trews said that he's "really looking forward to getting out to B.C. and rocking for you fine folks ... I'm sure it'll be a grand ol' time."
