Council’s reconsideration of the rezoning application that would allow a demonstration garden on a property owned by Northern Health will advance to public hearing.
The original request was declined as council didn’t feel they had enough information. This round, council still showed some reservations towards the proposed project, however let it pass through to public hearing to hear what the residents had to say.
“Council needs to at least take this to public hearing,” Councillor Charlie Northrup said. “We asked for a plan and they came back with a plan … [this way] we can see what the public has to say.”
The proposed demonstration garden would be on lands across from the Bulkley Valley District Hospital, currently designated as residential. While council is concerned about the limited residential development zones within town boundaries, Mayor Cress Farrow pointed out that those lands are being reserved by Northern Health for the eventual development of their new hospital. It would never develop into a residential area, he said.
The public hearing is expected for their next general meeting of council on April 12.
