An open house is being hosted at Smithers town hall today from 4:30 to 8 p.m. to answer question about the $8.17-million Airport Terminal Modernization Project.
A second alternative approval process (AAP) is scheduled for March 16 to April 19 after the expansion and renovation at Smithers Regional Airport went $2.17 million -- or more than one-third -- over its previous $6-million budget. Ten per cent or more of eligible voters must oppose the project for it to be stopped by the AAP.
The Town of Smithers was awarded a $4 million federal gas tax strategic priorities grant, plus $400,000 from the Regional District of Bulkley-Nehako Area A, to help pay for the project scheduled to start this spring after the AAP.
