Police charge man with uttering threats and firearm crimes

On Wednesday, police responded to a complaint in Fort Babine and arrested a 50-year-old man.

On May 11th, 2016, the Smithers RCMP responded to an unsubstantiated assault complaint at a residence in Fort Babine, a small First Nations community located approximately 100 kilometres north of Smithers. While police officers were on scene, another community member reported the male occupant had threatened to kill her with his rifle and that he owns firearms.

A rifle was located in the residence. A 50-year-old male was arrested and is facing charges of Uttering Threats, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. Police returned to the house with a search warrant to conduct an exhaustive search for other firearms.

The accused will appear in Provincial court on Monday May 16th .
