More public school students are graduated on time
Public high school completion rates in the region continue to rise. Across the province, on average 84 per cent of students got their diplomas within six years.
In the Coast Mountains School District 82 335 students, or 84 per cent of students, graduated in the 2016/2017 school year. In the last five years, the lowest the completion rate ever dipped was 65 per cent. For Indigenous students in School District 82, 73 per cent graduated last year. That is up from 42 per cent less than five years ago. Students with special needs also saw an increase in picking up their diplomas year over year.
The same trend continues in the Bulkley Valley School District 54 (SD54). According to the Province, there were 145 graduates in the 2016/2017 school year, which equaled 79 per cent of their eligible students. The five-year low for SD54 is 72 per cent.
For Indigenous students, the completion rate was 65 per cent. The five-year low in that category was 53 per cent. For students with special needs, 61 per cent of them picked up their diplomas in 2017. The five-year low for special needs students in the Bulkley Valley was 38 per cent.
