Mobile restaurant rules established for Smithers

After weeks of indecision regarding mobile restaurants, a decision has finally moved forward.

Early this year council was approached by a request for a mobile restaurant to operate in Smithers. While the original request was for it to be able to work for Farmer’s Markets, it wouldn’t be limited to just that location, council noted.

The current regulation restricts mobile restaurants from operating within 150 metres of another food vendor, but these regulations would make it impossible for the applicant to operate at the farmers market. But how close is too close when it comes to other food vendors?

According to the motion that was approved that would be 30 metres. The motion, that also specified that a mobile restaurant and a mobile vendor would only be allowed to operate in the same place for two consecutive days before being forced to relocate, also standardized the business licence fee to $250 per year.
