Man to appear in court over Smithers break and enter

Smithers RCMP has charged a 27-year-old man with one count each of break and enter and theft under $5,000.

A 27-year-old man will appear in provincial court today facing theft and break and enter charges over an alleged crime in Smithers.

Shane Vangrootheest has been charged with one count each of break and enter and theft under $5,000.

The RCMP is investigating whether Vangrootheest is linked to any other crimes in a rash of break-ins in Smithers over the past month.

The break and enters, which have occurred in both rural and central parts of Smithers, took place during the day while the home-owners were out.

The RCMP said cash and other small valuables which were easy to carry, hide or pawn were targeted and the residences were randomly selected.
