A Snowfall warning is in effect for Highway 16 from Smithers to Terrace with most snow falling near Terrace.

Environment Canada says an unstable airmass will continue to give snow over Highway 16 near Terrace tonight. Additional snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm near Terrace can be expected before the snow tapers off to a few flurries early Wednesday morning.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

DriveBC has also issued an avalanche alert from 13 km east of the Port Edward turnoff to 35 km west of Terrace. The Highway is open but may close within the next 12 hours.

ShiftIntoWinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
