Houston Pellet plant fire and explosion

The Houston Pellet plant suffered what the company is calling a deflagration event Monday after a fire on Saturday.

The owners of the Houston Pellet plant confirmed that the Houston Fire Department has responded to a fire at the plant.

According to Houston Pellet Limited Partnership (HPLP), the fire was initially detected and responded to on Saturday evening. On Monday morning, as part of the procedure of removing the residual wood fibre from the affected silo, a deflagration event -- or minor explosion -- occurred.

The Houston Fire Department assisted the on-site crews. The situation is now stable and no one has been injured, HPLP said in a release.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

HPLP thanked the fire department for their support, and its team for managing the incident without injury in its release.

More to come.
