GREENVILLE has joined Kincolith in the Nass Valley in being cut off from the rest of the region.

Flooding from a rain-swollen Nass River has closed the Nisga'a Highway between Gitwinksihlw and Greenville.

There is no detour available and no estimated time of reopening.

Although there has been substantial work to raise the level of the highway at some spots and make other improvements, it does run at or near river level for some distance on the route between Gitwinkshilkw and Greenville.

The highway section from Greenville further west to Kincolith, however, is open but there is debris on the road.

That section of the Nisga'a Highway was closed yesterday because of a mudslide and high water.

Highway 37A into Stewart remains closed this morning as that tiny community enters another day of being cut off because of flooding.

A raging Bear River has now taken chunks out of the highway that in some sections has resulted in more than a lane width's of roadway disappearing.

The washout is approximately 20km east of Stewart and while maintenance crews are at the location, there is no estimated time of reopening.

Also closed is Highway37 North from the Bell 2 brdige to Bob Quinn Lake because of flooding and debris on the road.

There is no detour available and no estimated time of reopening but maintenance crews are on site.

The closures and slides followed several heavy days of rain starting at the beginning of the week.

A heavy rainfall warning remains in effect.
