The first baby of 2021 born in Smithers at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital is a girl.

Born at 8:43 p.m Jan. 2, weighing seven pounds, 14.9 ounces, Zisel “Zeesy” Frida Feinberg was born to proud parents Ezra Teitel and Lisa Feinberg.

She is welcomed to the world by big sister Miriam “Mim.”

“I will always love you new baby; I love all my family,” Mim said when asked about her new sister.

“The Feinberg-Teitel family is very grateful for the excellent care from the BVDH with special thanks to Dr. Haskins, doula Bronwyn and all the nursing and hospital staff, especially nurses Amanda, Dana, and Aryn,” new mom Lisa said.

The first baby born in the Bulkley Valley had already been welcomed into the world at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton.

Northern Health announced the yet unnamed boy was born at 2:18 p.m., Jan. 1.

The baby was born to mom Royelle Williams and dad Shane Skulsh of Kispiox. He is welcomed to the world by his stepbrother Tayler.

“Royelle is Gitxsan and was born here on Gitxsan territory, so it was important to her that her baby was also born in her community,” said midwife Hana Lang. “She worked very hard for a very long time to deliver this babe and I’m so proud of her. Her mom, Jane Williams, was also at the birth; she delivered Royelle here at Wrinch memorial hospital too, and Shane, the father, was also born at Wrinch.”

The child was also the first for the Northwest Health Service Delivery Area, of which there are three in the Northern Health region.
