There is enhanced security at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton after an off-site incident involving personnel.

“It’s just out of an abundance of caution. We had an incident last week that occurred off of our site,” explained Northern Health spokesperson Andrea Palmer.

She was unable to comment further because Northern Health is considering it a personnel matter. Nobody from New Hazelton RCMP was available for comment. Questions on any arrests or more details on the incident have been put to the RCMP media contact for the North District, but there has been no answers as of Friday morning. A spokesperson said she would look into it.

How long the extra security measures will be in is a local decision, according to Palmer.

“It’s not terribly disruptive. It’s just we have some entrances to the facility that have been secured and are being monitored,” she said.

“We’re having everyone come through the main entrance door so that it can be monitored.”

Extra security staff have been brought in to do the monitoring.
