Drugs worth quarter million seized

New Hazelton RCMP Acting detachment commander Corporal Don Wrigglesworth reported seizing a large quantity of drugs, marijuana growing equipment and cash on Friday.

A vehicle found to be traveling northbound on Highway 37 on Friday afternoon was stopped by a Smithers traffic member for excessive speed. During the traffic stop the male was arrested for possession of marijuana. A further search of the vehicle located a quantity of small marijuana plants.

There was also a large assortment of hydroponic equipment related to growing marijuana, two hockey bags full of marijuana and a large quantity of hash oil. In addition, a large amount of cash s well as  the vehicle was seized.

The 35 year old resident of Haines Junction in the Yukon was charged but is to appear in Hazelton court on April 20th to appear on a number of trafficking related accounts.

The street value of the drugs would be estimated in the 250,000 dollar range, but prices in the Yukon are much higher, Cpl. Wriggelsworth added.
