Smithers RCMP executed a search warrant on Dec. 2 and 10 p.m., assisted by the Prince Rupert RCMP Police Dog Section.

The warrant was for controlled drugs at a residence on Astlais Place. A 38-year-old male and a 30-year-old female were arrested without incident and both were transported to the Smithers RCMP detachment.

Two young children were found in the home and placed in the care of local family members.

In all the RCMP seized 1,000 grams of marijuana, worth about $7,500, police said. A small amount of cocaine was also seized.

The pair were released at the end of the search and charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance are being pursued against both persons under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
