The New Hazelton RCMP had a busy weekend with numerous alcohol related calls and domestic disputes. There was also a handful of motor vehicle accidents including a transport truck that slid into the ditch between Ross Lake and New Hazelton and three other smaller MVA’s involving cars.
There has been a rash of thefts in the area such as a laptop and camcorder stolen from Hagwilget, a 21 speed white Shamano bike with the initials RL engraved on the cross bar from Two Mile, gas from a crane situated in South Hazelton at the railway bridge and a Huskavarna 365 chainsaw from Gitwangak. The RCMP received a report of a 50 year old male attempting to sell the chainsaw and upon investigation they did locate another saw with the initials KFP on it but did not find the suspect. However, the following day they were informed that their suspect had been charged with impaired driving in 100 Mile House but no saw was found at the time.
Corporal Don Wrigglesworth said they have also received a lot of abandoned 911 calls from kids specifically at the Kal Tire pay phone. Due to the fact the RCMP must respond to all 911 calls, they have decided to set up surveillance cameras at the Kal Tire location to try and apprehend the individuals who will be charged with public mischief if caught.
