Smithers RCMP responded to several traffic complaints in the Woodland Subdivision and Cottonwood Road area of Telkwa. Concerned citizens called police about vehicles travelling at high rates of speed through the area, stunting, spinning tires, and revving engines. Extensive patrols were made in the area and a number of traffic stops and violation tickets were issued.

Police conducted bike patrols in the downtown core of Smithers , as well as in the Midsummer Music Festival area of the fair grounds. The patrols resulted in three traffic files with moving violations, as well as one liquor seizure for consumption in public.

July 2

Smithers RCMP received a report of property damage to the new rainbow sidewalk painted at Main Street and Second Avenue. Multiple vehicles were observed attempting to deface the sidewalk by doing burnouts across the colours, leaving black rubber strips. The vehicles were not located.

Smithers RCMP would like to remind the public that when a traffic complaint is reported, a violation ticket can be issued against the registered owner of the vehicle when the caller provides a witness statement to police and either the plate of the vehicle, video or photographic evidence of the offence.
