Assessed values go up in Bulkley Valley

The assessed values of homes are on the rise with the release of the 2012 property assessments.

According to BC Assessment, most homes in Smithers, Telkwa and the Hazeltons will see a rise in the range of five to 15 per cent.

According to their Jan. 3 release, Smithers, Telkwa and the Hazeltons assessment roll rose to $905 million this year, compared to $871 million last year.

Commercial and industrial properties will see a zero to 10 per cent rise in Smithers, a five to 10 per cent rise in Hazelton, while the values drop for Telkwa (-10 to 0 per cent) and for New Hazelton (-10 to -5 per cent).

If property owners feel their property assessment doesn't reflect market value as of July 1, 2011, they can contact the BC Assessment office and talk to an appraiser.

The Northwest office is located at 4545 Lazelle Avenue in Terrace. In January, they are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their number is 1-800-990-1116.
