Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre is gearing up for a promising cross-country ski season, with fresh upgrades and a new groomer on the way.

Meanwhile, the Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club (BVCCSC) has announced several improvements, including a new lodge heating system, new bridges, and trail upgrades designed to enhance skiing even with minimal snow coverage.

“There’s a lot to look forward to,” a BVCCSC statement shared, noting that the new heating system will warm the lodge and that trail upgrades “allow great conditions even in less-than-ideal snow coverage.”

The Nordic Centre has also introduced remote first aid shelters along the trails, adding a layer of safety for skiers. BVCCSC representatives added that their new groomer is currently en route from Calgary to its new home.

Closer to opening day, BVCCSC will acknowledge the generous grants that funded these developments.

In a rare feat amid rising costs, BVCCSC has held season and day pass fees steady, thanks to a recreation grant from the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako. “Our goal is accessibility for all ages, from four and up,” the club stated, pointing to lessons and group offerings that cater to skiers of all experience levels.

Local youth athletes also have exciting travel on the horizon, as Bulkley Valley's Athlete Development Program families prepare for a skier exchange with Ottawa’s Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club, the BVCCSC added. The Bulkley Valley will host 32 visitors while sending 20 local skiers east.

Ranked as the 12th largest cross-country ski club in Canada with over 1,100 members, BVCCSC stands among British Columbia’s most active clubs, alongside others in Kimberley, Vernon, and Prince George’s Caledonia Nordic, which leads the country with more than 2,150 members.
