Smithers soccer club dominates Prince Rupert tournament

The Smithers Gunners Soccer Club dominated the Prince Rupert Seafest soccer tournament, winning all of its five games culminating in a 4-1 extra time victory against Kitimat FC.

The Smithers Gunners Soccer Club, a senior men's soccer team, won the Seafest 2025 soccer tournament June 13-15 in Prince Rupert.

It was a dominant performance, with the team winning all five games in the weekend tournament. The Smithers Gunners beat Terrace FC, Greenville Athletic Club, and Prince Rupert United in the group stage of the tournament.

After beating Terrace United in the semi-final, the Gunners faced Kitimat FC in the final.

Trailing 1-0 late in the game, a clutch free kick from Dominic Imhof tied the game and sent it to extra time.

Paul Contumelias scored the winning goal five minutes into extra time and Smithers went on to win the game 4-1.

A number of Smithers Gunners won individual tournament awards, including Dominic Imhof, Anton Bucher, Gian Luther, Phil Illsiner, Jinson Johny,  with the squad's youngest player, Liam Imhof, who took the tournament MVP title.
