It was a great weekend in Victoria BC for Smithers Saltos highest-level athletes Hannah Robinson and Gryphon Tendall March 1-3.

The two Bulkey Valley gymnasts compete in the Inspire Cup, a trials event for the Western Canadian Championships in both men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics.

Tendall qualified as a team BC athlete and will be competing at the championships in Langley, BC from March 17-21.

“Gryphon showed the true heart of an athlete at this tough competition proving that anything is possible,” said Lara Collingwood, president of the Smithers gymnastics club. “Gryphon’s calm mindset, determination and ability to not let emotions get in his way, helped him achieve his goals.”

Tendall placed first in floor; second in pommel horse, rings, vault and parallel bars and third in horizontal bar for a second finish all around.

Hannah Robinson competed in Canadian Competitive Level 8.

“Her floor routine looked exceptional and the audience was amazed by the most beautiful dance sequences and tumbling lines,” said Collingwood. “Despite the tough competition, Hannah looked strong on all events, especially the vault event.

Robinson is currently continuing her training in preparation for the Gymnastics BC Championships on March 28.

“We are all excited to see her compete at the next meet,” said Collingwood. “Both Hannah and Gryphon showed their best gymnastics and stuck to their coach Daniil Moseev’s plan. The public was entertained to say the least. Let’s go Smithers!
