The BVCS Royals ended their senior boys volleyball season with a second place finish at the BC School Sports ‘A’ Volleyball Provincial Championships.

The Royals entered the 16-team tournament on the Abbotsford Campus of the University of the Fraser Valley with a fourth-place provincial ranking.

They were delighted with a hard-earned second-place finish, said Tom Grasmeyer, BVCS development director.

Credo Christian School (Langley) took home the gold medal after three sets in the best-of-five gold medal match.

Pierson Ede was named a first-team All-Star while Travis Koopmans was named a second-team All-Star.

The NW Zone was well-represented at the tournament, with Ebenezer Canadian Reformed School (Smithers) finishing eighth and Houston Christian School finishing fifth.

This strong placement by NW teams is a testament to the strength of the athletics programs in northern schools, Grasmeyer said.

The Royals were coached during the regular season by BVCS alumni head coach Travis Brandsma, assistant coaches Ty Goodson and Kyler Geertsma.

Assistant coaches during the provincial tournament were Travis Nanninga and James Horner.
