The Smithers RCMP has four new police officers who have recently joined the detachment.
The new members — Cst. Jessie Seng, Cst. Savannah Sundquist, Cst. Mitchell Fossum, and Cst. Joe Nicholas — are already working alongside experienced officers as they begin serving the Smithers area.
"This is an exciting time for our detachment", said Sgt. Ryan Law, Acting Smithers Detachment Commander. "The addition of these four officers brings a renewed sense of momentum. We now have a blend of senior experience and new talent working together to meet the needs of our community."
According to a press release from the Smithers RCMP, the new officers come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wide range of skills and life experiences to their policing roles.
Their arrival marks a new chapter for the Smithers RCMP as the detachment continues to evolve in response to the changing needs of the area, they say.
Community members may see new faces on patrol, at community events, and during day-to-day interactions.
The RCMP encourages residents to say hello and get to know all the officers helping keep Smithers safe.
"Policing is most effective when it’s rooted in community connection," said Smithers RCMP media relations officer Constable Jocelyn Foidart. "I’m proud of the work our members are doing and excited about what this next generation brings to the table."
These new hires mean the front line officers are full staffed right now.
