Smithers RCMP arrest wanted offender

During a patrols in the downtown area, Smithers RCMP officers arrested a man wanted on several outstanding warrants.

The warrants against Kenneth Gonu were for offences including break and enter, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000. Following his arrest, Gonu was remanded into custody and awaits further court proceedings.

"This arrest highlights the dedication of our members who are out proactively working to keep our community safe," said Sergeant Ryan Law.

The Smithers RCMP confirmed in a Jan. 14 press release that they remain committed to enhancing safety through increased patrols and community engagement.

"We have prioritized downtown patrols to address safety concerns and ensure a visible police presence in the area," added Staff Sergeant Mark Smaill. "Community members may notice increased patrols as part of our efforts to enhance public safety."

The RCMP urges residents to report suspicious activity as they continue efforts to maintain safety in Smithers.
