A familiar face in the northwest political landscape is taking over the reigns in Smithers.
The town has hired Michael Dewar to be the chief administrative officer, replacing Dianna Plouffee who retired this fall.
Dewar was most recently the CAO for the District of Houston.
Previously, he was the District of Kitimat’s economic development and communications director and before that, he participated in Northern Development Initiative Trust’s local government management internship program with the City of Prince Rupert.
“You never know when a person is coming from outside the region, even with great credentials, when you land here, you have to love it here,” said Smithers Mayor Gladys Atrill.
“And what we know about Michael, is that he likes the region, and is looking forward to coming to Smithers.
“So he likes the area. He likes the communities. And so that’s one really big checkmark.”
Dewar will assume the role on Jan. 15 2024.
“I am very excited and honoured for this opportunity to work with the mayor, ccouncil, staff and the community in helping Smithers achieve its strategic vision,” said Dewar in a press release from the town.
