Two Interior News staff members were honoured by the British Columbia Yukon Community Newspaper (BCYCNA) Ma Murray Awards on May 4.

Publisher Grant Harris swept the Online Advertising category with gold, silver and bronze for online campaigns for three local businesses. The gold was for his “Give the Gift of Love” campaign for Carters Jewellers.

He also garnered silver with the Outdoor Essentials “All the Essential Gifts” campaign and bronze for “Earths Beauty Revealed” for Love of Rocks.

Interior News Editor Thom Barker earned the silver award in the Editorial writing category for his editorial titled “Siren be Gone.”

The controversial proposal to eliminate the daily noontime siren was unpopular with Smithers residents, but brought to light the fact it has merely become a tradition and serves no actual purpose.

Barker is a previous winner in numerous editorial categories.
