The annual Bulkley Valley Exhibibtion kicks off next week.
The annual parade down Main St. in Smithers is on Aug. 21 and the fall fair runs Aug. 22 -25. The theme for this year’s fair is “Ribbons, Rides and Rodeo: Celebrating 105 years at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition.”
There will be plenty of old favourites coming back and some new things to see and do this year.
The rodeo is taking place on all four days, with the BCRA sanctioned rodeo on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The livestock rings and barns will be filled with animals and there will be milking demonstrations on Friday and Saturday.
Shooting Star Amusements is coming back with rides, carnival games, candy floss, mini donuts, lemonade and other food.
The Canine Stars show will be happening again. Uncle Chris the Clown will be around all weekend, as well as Yukon Dan the Gold Miner. The Petting Zoo will be open all weekend, with lambs, chickens, bunnies, goats, donkeys and ponies. There will also be face painting for the children.
The valley’s own singer-songwriter Mark Perry is back on Saturday evening on the Main Stage with his Fall Fair Band. Thursday evening, there will be an Alabama tribute band, and Friday is Rock music night. There will also be plenty of other local and regional groups performing throughout the days on all four days.
The BVX concerts are free with gate admission.
Adult one day passes are $15.00, and for the whole weekend it’s $45. Seniors and youth are $30 for the weekend. Kids (12 and under) are free.
On average, for the past several years, the attendance has clocked in at approximately 22,000 people.
