The Hazelton Wolverines secured a decisive 11-3 victory over the Prince Rupert Rampage on Jan. 11 at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre in Prince Rupert. The game highlighted Hazelton's offensive prowess as they extended their lead in the Central Interior Hockey League standings.

The Rampage struck first, with Judd Repole scoring on a powerplay just two and a half minutes into the first period. However, Hazelton responded quickly, beginning with Jonah Bevington’s goal at 3:01. Dawson McKenzie and Jack Lenchyshyn added to the tally, the latter on a powerplay. Tanner Wort contributed two late goals, completing a dominant first period for the Wolverines, who led 5-2. Prince Rupert’s Brady Jacob Ward scored their second goal during a brief surge midway through the period.

Hazelton continued their assault in the second period, opening with Jordan Thomas’s goal less than a minute in. Tanner Wort’s hat trick was sealed shortly after, followed by Joel Patsey scoring at 12:13. Wort added his fourth goal late in the period, stretching Hazelton's lead to 9-2.

Hunter Johnson provided a brief spark for the Rampage in the third period with a powerplay goal at 7:45. However, Wort scored his fifth of the night, and Patsey rounded off the scoring for the Wolverines, capping the match at 11-3.

The Wolverines' record reflects a mid-range season with nine wins, four losses, and one overtime loss. Their performance cements them in fourth place, just one point shy of Williams Lake in third. The Rampage, with a 5-7-2 record, are in fifth.

Terrace River Kings continue to dominate the league with a 14-1-0 record, boasting 28 points. Quesnel Kangaroos and Williams Lake Stampeders hold second and third with 25 and 20 points, respectively. At the bottom, Nechako Northstars remain in eighth with just one win and two points.
