The Snowed in Comedy Tour returned to Smithers for the fifth time on Friday.

The tour features some of the best comedy has to offer: Great Canadian Laugh Off winner, Paul Myrehaug; five-time Canadian Comedian of the Year nominee, Pete Zedlacher; Craig Campbell; Seattle Comedy Competition winner Damonde Tschritter (who did not perform on Friday and will be joining the tour in February); headlined by Just for Laughs winner Dan Quinn.

Quinn spoke with The Interior News after the performance.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. Beware, there is some foul comedian’s language.

What did you think of the show?

I thought it was a total blast. We had a lot of fun, the audience was great and I thought we were great (laughs). A good combination.

What have you done in town so far?

We just went to dinner at the Roadhouse. Went to Local Supply, and loaded up on some new goggles, got the board worked on. I think [Zedlacher] bought a bunch of clothes.

We already [visited Hudson Bay Mountain] a couple of days ago and that was awesome. It’s a really good hill and I think people should check it out. Hopefully it gets more press because you got nobody there, good snow, [and] great terrain. I hope we can be people that let the rest of the province know, hey come on up and check this wonderful place.

Are you guys snowboarders or skiers?

[Zedlacher] is a skier the rest of us are snowboarders. We don’t play favourites. It doesn’t matter — skier, snowboarder — as long as you’re having fun.

Who’s the best snowboarder?

I’m going to say me. Well it depends. [Campbell ] is probably the fastest, I do the biggest jumps, [Myrehaug] can probably do the most tricks.

What have been some of the most interesting moments on tour so far?

[Myrehaug] got a speeding ticket on the way up. He tried to get out of it by telling him he was a comic. ‘We’re on a 45 city comedy tour,’ he dropped all that and the guy did not care at all. He was like, ‘oh that’s nice here’s your ticket.’

We have no celebrity card with cops. That’s where you find out your level in life is when the cops are like, ‘oh yeah I don’t give a shit.’ (laughs).

What are some interesting moments from previous tours?

Getting to go heliskiing for free at Eagle Pass. That’s pretty amazing.

Lots of laughs shared in the truck and fun times. Having to go through things like [there] being an accident on the road and not being sure [we’ll] make the gig. Issues with sound not working.

Sound went out at a show one time and they had no backup mics [so] we had to do the show without a mic. It’s always an interesting new challenge.

How does it feel going from doing bigger shows in theatres to small shows like this?

They’re all actually fun. We’ll be in big theatres all next week. It’s not necessarily better [shows like] this can be just as fun. An audience, if they’re listening and they’re there to have a good time is the same whether it’s 350 or 1,400.

Tonight will be as fun as any other show we do. People are enjoying themselves. That’s what we want. We want to go out [and] make people laugh and if they’re enjoying themselves then we’re enjoying ourselves. If they’re not then all of a sudden we’re like this isn’t a lot of fun up here.
