Some diseases have been studied to the point where they have almost been eliminated. Others, however, are more complex and have no known prevention or cure.

Congenital heart defects could be included in that group. They are the most common birth defect with about one out of every 100 babies born affected.

Of course fundraisers are held in a variety of forms and those funds have helped research into the conditions. We’ve all seen and somehow endured karaoke and despite the best efforts of most participants, there is rarely any permanent damage done.

In a slight twist, a special event will be coming up soon that may be less hard on the ears but more entertaining to the eyes. Anyone who has witnessed such an event will be able to attest to the braveness of those who try to follow the lead of what they hear.

The Heart & Soul Lip Sync Battle will be held Feb. 24 at the Dze L K’ant Friendship Center.

There will be an evening of competition and fun for an important cause. Proceeds will go to for BC Children’s Hospital in support of children born with congenital heart disease, the Children’s Heart Network, and the Bulkley Valley Child Development Centre.

Local talent will be on display, including Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen and The Interior News publisher Grant Harris.

Tickets for the event are available at Bulkley Valley Insurance Services, The Capri Motor Inn and Bulkley Valley Child Development Centre.
