A rebranding of Divas and Friends to Arts on Stage: Evolution, has been done to conjure notions of past and present performers, and to showcase the multi-talented pool of talent the Bulkley Valley has.

Dubbed as a one-night-only “Spectacular,” the fundraiser for the Bulkley Valley Community Arts Council will be presented at the Della Herman Theatre in Smithers, April 14, with doors open at 7 p.m.

The B.V. Arts Council has been supporting artists’ work, education, and place-making events since 1980. Every two years, the council presents a showcase of local talent to remind people how diverse and exciting the Bulkley Valley talent pool really is.

This year, event coordinator Sharon Carrington has curated a diverse lineup of performers who represent the past and future of Bulkley Valley’s stage arts.

A hint of a few of the highlights include: world-renowned Flamenco guitarist Esteban Figueroa, The Slavic Kaleidoscope Dancers, and Ukrainian Hokak Dancers (an improvised high-energy dance number), who are lending their talents during an evening of song, dance, music and theatrical interludes.

The B.V. Arts Council is best known for providing funding to local artists’ projects, continued learning, lessons, and public art pieces and shows.

“It’s so much more than just providing money (which we also enjoy doing), but we also provide emotional support for artists finding their way,”said Sharon MacGregor, the Arts Council President.

Regarding the name change, the Arts Council board members felt that it was time to revamp the name of the concert, and choose a name that reflects the bridging of talents and musical backgrounds this event offers and highlights.

Tickets can be purchased at Mills Interior Stationary (1156 Main Street, Smithers) or at Mountain Eagle Books (3775 3rd Ave, Smithers) in advance, and there will also be tickets on sale at the door. Adults are $25 and Students are $15.
