This Wednesday is Family Literacy Day at the Northwest Community College Campus in Hazelton from noon until 3 p.m.

This week there is a story about the Great Northern Amazing Race and I thought it was important to share how wonderful I think this event is going to be.

After several years of minimal snow pack, the Northwest got hammered last weekend.

The Winter Performing Arts Festival is scheduled to get under way on Jan. 27 and 28 at the Hazelton Secondary School. There will be singers, musicians, comedians, dancers, short films and theatre for all ages. Please register in advance by calling 250-842-5214 or emailing barbara.janze@cmsd.bc.ca.

While Bev Young has given numerous kids from the Bulkley Valley advice on what to do after school, when it came to her own career and personal planning, she always knew she wanted to be a teacher.

A film by the name of 180º South: Conquerors of the Useless which is about an epic journey in 1968 taken by Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia will be the feature of an evening out at the Kispiox Community Hall next week.

Since their formation only four years ago, Sultans of String have been riding a wave of success, from their debut CD “Luna” and second offering “Yalla Yalla,” both hitting number one on international music charts in Canada, to their triple 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination, winning Instrumental Group of the Year.
