Bulkley Valley Museum director Fergus Tomlin is helping the Town of Smithers search for economic opportunities overseas.
On a recent trip to China, Tomlin brought Mayor Wang Shiwei from Anshan city in northeast China a letter from Smithers' Mayor Taylor Bachrach asking that the communities work together to see if there are any business or cultural opportunities that can benefit both.
Tomlin has family that lives in Anshan and in 2005 received the Qianshan Friendship Award from the Anshan Municipal Government and an honourary award from the Liaoning Province People's Government for contributing to the social and educational development of the city and province.
