Smithers trade show on this weekend

The fun starts this weekend for this year’s Northwest Trade Expo, hosted by the Smithers and District Chamber of Commerce.

Aptly themed “the Jewel of the North”, the show is better than ever, with the entire Smithers Civic Centre filling up fast both inside and out with businesses around the region eager to share their services.

“We’re really hoping that people will come down and enjoy it,” Chamber Manager Heather Gallagher said. “It’s a wonderful spring celebration.”

There are over 70 vendors signed up already, Gallagher said, and for the first time, the Farmers’ Market will be at the expo, hosting their members outside. Other items to come and check out include Usborne Children’s Books, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Sight & Sound, and Tropical Pool and Spa, but there are many more signed up, sure to make for a full day of fun.

“A lot of the times people might think I’ve been to the show I’ve seen it, but every year it’s different,” Gallagher said.

Happening on the weekend as well is the Chamber jelly bean draw, a favourite for children each year as they stare at the delicious treats trying to figure out how many they could have for themselves, if only they’d guess the right number.

Gallagher’s tip: “it’s always more than you think.”

This year’s trade expo begins this Friday at 3 p.m. and goes through to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30.
