Respecting elders in the community never grows old.
To honour the elders, Smithers Secondary School hosted dignitaries at the Della Herman Theatre for their Honouring Our Elders Ceremony.
Two student artists, under the direction of teacher Perry Rath, painted portraits of two selected dignitaries.
Grade 11 student Emerenne Saefkow and Grade 12 student Megan Randall are the artists. Mabel Forsythe and Rosemary Fox were selected as the dignitaries for this cycle’s project.
They worked off a photo of their subject, creating the portraits in less than three months.
The portraits will join the others currently on display at the entrance to the school’s Round Room.
