Once again the Bulkley Valley Radio Control Fliers will be taking to the skies for people of all ages to enjoy in their second annual Bulkley Valley Air Show on June 18.

Last year was immensely successful, organizers report, with pilots from as far away as Winnipeg taking part in the air show that drew in 200 spectators from the region.

The weather was perfect, the barbecue was in full swing as model aircrafts took to the skies. The highlight, organizers say, was the 3D performance by Mike Allman, whose performance included “hanging on the prop” that had his plane suspended in a vertical position, hovering as only a helicopter is able to.

This year will also include acts such as these to wow crowds, as well as a static display featuring aircrafts built from scratch, some by kits, others by hand-crafting each piece from blueprints. Planes in the show have a range of a 3 inch wingspan to a 14 inch wingspan, with speeds from 15 kilometres per hour to 298 kilometres per hour.

Organizers hope to see as many, if not more, come out to this year’s event that not only puts on a good show for entertainment purposes but also teaches about the sport of RC flying.

Held at the Houston Airport, the fun begins this Saturday as the gates open at 10 a.m. for the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For those who would like to try, a dual-controlled plane will be on site after the show for beginners to take their first flight.
