A grand opening may be a few months away yet but the Northwest Community College’s new Smithers campus is open for business.

A grand opening may be a few months away yet but the Northwest Community College’s new Smithers campus is open for business.

The project to completely rebuild their 2nd Avenue location took 18 months.

Now, the campus is wheelchair accessible, with expanded learning facilities and improved video conferencing. There are also new labs and shops for trades programs.

The spring and summer courses at the college have wrapped up by College Student Services are inside to answer questions from the public or prospective students about upcoming programs.

On Sept. 6 regular hours will resume but until then people can enter the campus Mondays to Fridays, 9 a.m. to 3 :30 p.m.

The project cost approximately $16.7 million, and is one of 40 Knowledge Infrastructure Program projects across the province, funded by both the provincial and federal governent.

It was also part of $14 billion infrastructure program by the province.
