New mural for New Hazelton

The District of New Hazelton has completed a long time goal of having a mural to depict some of the area’s rich history.

After years of planning and saving, the District of New Hazelton has completed a long time goal of having a mural to depict some of the area’s rich history.

The design is the work of local artist Leah Pipe. Pipe was able to use some historical photos of the New Hazelton area from the Royal Museum to incorporate into her design.

District of New Hazelton administrator Donny VanDyke said they are very happy with the outcome and the council and Mayor’s hopes have paid off.

“It has been a long term vision of the Mayor and council of New Hazelton to create a mural depicting New Hazelton’s history, as well as that of the region,” he said. “They put some money aside during the budget process last year and commissioned Leah Pipe along with the help of others to make it happen.”

The mural, which was finally completed two weeks ago, is located beside the New Hazelton Chevron, and is visible from Highway 16 for the passing residents and tourists.
