A film by the name of 180º South: Conquerors of the Useless which is about an epic journey in 1968 taken by Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia will be the feature of an evening out at the Kispiox Community Hall next week.
The movie will follow a dinner prepared by local chef James Mould and tickets must be purchased in advance for the package deal.
Kispiox resident Shannon McPhail explains the intrigue and adventure of the film.
“Jeff Johnson retraces the epic journey of his heros,” she said. “Along the way he gets shipwrecked off Easter Island, surfs the longest wave of his life and prepares himself for a rare ascent of Cerro Corcovado. Jeff’s life takes a turn when he meets up in a rainy hut with Chouinard and Tompkins who, once driven purely by a love of climbing and surfing, now value above all the experience of raw nature. They have come to Patagonia to spend their fortunes to protect it.”
Tickets can be purchased in advance for the dinner and movie at Mercedes Beans and Model Teas in Old Hazelton for $15 or from Noreen or Kateri. For those who wish to only attend the movie, show time starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.
