Sarah Lazzarotto and the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Crew raised more than $3,000 which they donated to the Community Cancer Care team in Smithers.

Lazzarotto was part of starting the Tough Enough campaign at the Kispiox Valley Rodeo in 2012, due in part, to her sister Lia, who developed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at a young age and has since overcome the malady.

“I was Rodeo Queen and couldn’t take part in the Relay for Life in Smithers,” Lazzarotto said.

“I saw the Tough Enough campaign in Williams Lake and decided to bring it

home.

“It was win-win.”

In only the second year of the TETWP in Kispiox the total raised has nearly doubled, Lazzarotto said.

“We raised around $1,700 the first year,” she said.

“As much help as I had the first year there was a big contribution from Jude Hobenshield this time around.”

Hobenshield donated a quilt, which was auctioned off and raised more than $1,400.

Another key to the success is Liz, Sarah’s and Lia’s mom, who has worked tirelessly for the TETWP campaign.

“Our mom’s awesome,” Lazzarotto said.

“We would be nowhere without her.”

Despite the growing success Lazzarotto, who will graduate from Hazelton Secondary School next June, will move on to post-secondary and is looking to pass the torch.

“Hopefully somebody else steps up and takes the reigns,” Lazzarotto said.

“I’d help them learn and leave some detailed notes if needed for anyone willing to take over.”
