Fine arts and science came together in glorious fashion at Lake Kathlyn Elementary School as students put their performing talents on display to showcase what they’ve learned about the world.

In a new program which is set to continue next year, the students participated in Fine Arts Focus Week, and the students had guest teachers come in to help them learn some new skills.

Each class took on a grade specific science topic they explained through arts.

Kindergarten and grade one students showcased bears, space was the focus for grades two and three, the human body was the subject for grades four and five, and grades six and seven took on the impact of humans on the environment.

The special guests were muscian Peter Haines, poet Mark Edwards, dance specialist Janet Harris and art specialist Bev Munro.

All that the students learned were presented at an assembly in their school.

Space was explored using the musical stylings of xylophones, the human body through a collective poem, and bears were a clay art display.

Human impacts on the environment was the subject to a photo slideshow.

Principal Marie Edwards said that the school is looking forward to future Fine Arts Focus Weeks that will explore other subjects of interest.
