First 2019 northern B.C. baby born in Smithers.

William Ross was born with bragging rights.

The boy born at Bulkley Valley District hospital Jan. 1 was the first to arrive in northern B.C. in 2019.

Big sister Avery, two-and-a-half, mom Nikki and dad Will welcomed the six pounds, 14 ounces bundle at 1:01 a.m. The family is from Stewart.

The first baby born in British Columbia in 2019 was also a boy, delivered at Fraser Health’s Royal Columbian Hospital at 12:01 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
