The Smithers/Telkwa ‘Friends meeting Friends’ Friendship Group are a close bunch.

Maria Pacheco and Shirley Reitsman have been friends for many years and for the last 10 years have attended the Smithers/Telkwa ‘Friends meeting Friends’ Friendship Group together.

Last Christmas the Friendship Group passed a collection bucket around at their meeting to buy a gift from Christian Reformed World Relief Committee Christmas catalogue and were able to provide mosquito nets, fish, goats, water filters and a calf to help families in Africa, Honduras, Bangladesh and Cambodia. Then Maria decided she would like to help all year and started saving.

She came up with the idea that every time she used the treadmill at Shirley’s home she would give one dollar and she would save this to help people who are poor.

Over the past year Maria has collected $266 and he would like to give all this money to families who need help to feed their families and also to provide Bibles for children who do not have one.

The Friendship Group also had a collection again and this amounted to $320 so together we were able to help even more families this Christmas through the CRWRC “Give Hope” campaign.

Over 40 friends and mentors belong to Friendship Group and enjoy singing, reading and learning from the Bible, playing games, sharing stories and events, asking for prayer, snack time and doing crafts.

Some special events that are celebrated are a Christmas evening, picnics in the park, wiener roasts, games in the gym and bowling. Everyone eagerly looks forward to each meeting and regularly attends.
