Christmas closer than it appears in the Hazeltons

With only a month left until Christmas the festivities are getting underway in the Hazeltons.

With only a month left until Christmas the festivities are getting underway in the Hazeltons with the annual Gitanmaax Trade Fair last week and Christmas parties and fundraisers, celebrations, auctions, bake sales and craft shows scheduled in the coming weeks.

Christmas in Hazelton is set for Dec. 14 with late night shopping, pictures with Santa, horse drawn sleigh rides, vendors and more. The organizers are still looking for more ideas and are inviting people to come out and attend the planning meetings on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Village of Hazelton office.

Also on Dec. 14, there will be a bake sale at the New Hazelton Lion’s Hall from 12 noon until 7 p.m.

There will be baked goods, coffee, gifts and other items for people to enjoy or purchase.

Another great spot to stop is the local Misty Rivers Art Gallery in Hazelton as they are showcasing local artisans as well as the world-renowned Roy Henry Vickers who work will be on display until Christmas.

There are limited edition serigraphs, books, block mounts, art cards and 2012 calendars for sale and Vickers will be appearing on Nov. 27 from noon until 4 p.m. for signing and greeting everyone.

The Hazelton food bank is also gearing up for Christmas and asking the public to come forth with donations of food as well as gifts and toys to help fill community pantries and stockings this Holiday season.

The Hazelton Secondary School Healthy Living Crew is also requesting donations of quart jars for a Christmas art project and people are asked to drop them off at the Learning Shop in Hazelton or to call 250-842-6500 to arrange pick up.

Hazelton Minor Hockey announced their second annual Christmas Auction and bake sale is set for Nov. 30 from  6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the arena.

A preview of the auction items and bake sales starts at 4:30 p.m. and anyone wishing to donate or help out with the event is asked to contact Arlene at 250-842-5589, Jim at 250-842-6315 or Juila at 250-849-5955.
