Car show will shine Saturday

Car enthusiasts are revving up for the third annual Cruising the Valley car show and shine this weekend.

“Our basic philosophy of the whole car show is that it’s supposed to be a fun thing and it’s supposed to be casual,” said Steve Derby, who is organizing the event with a group of friends referred to as the Burnout Bozos.

The event is this Saturday, June 4, at Hudson Bay Lodge, and runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

He said last year’s event drew out about 100 cars and they’re hoping to see even more this weekend.

The event has grown since it began. It’s first year saw about 90 vehicles.

“There’s a lot of people that come from all over,” he said.

People are coming in from Prince Rupert, Terrace, Kitimat and Prince George.

Along with showing off the vehicles, there will be a car corral for people to sell theirs, a swap meet table for automotive needs, along with music.

The drivers will take a cruise afterwards.

Vanderhoof has their annual car show the following day and organizers are promoting a car show circuit where owners will take their rides to Vanderhoof after Smithers’ event.

“A lot of people don’t realize how many cars there are in the valley,” he said.”
