The Canadian Mosaic Project rolled into Smithers on its journey across Canada.

Photographer Tim Van Horne began his journey nine years ago to ignite Canada’s cultural identity by meeting and photographing everyday Canadians.

Van Horne said the project was to only last one year, but realized he needed more time to fully understand who the Canadian public is.

“I decided I wanted to photograph Canada for Canada.” He said.

This year’s tour consists of 150 stops, which made Smithers the 11th community.

In total, Van Horne has photographed 55,000 people in 1,250 communities all across Canada.

The tour wraps up in November and will start back up in the spring.

“I see this as my life’s work, I feel as if I’m only half way through my project,” said Van Horne.
