Ballet Kelowna Dance Company will be hosted in Smithers on April 7.

Thursday evening the Bulkley Valley will be host to the Ballet Kelowna dance company, who will be performing their Actions Consequences spring show at the Della Herman Theatre.

Actions Consequences is a presentation involving a wide range of dances that explores the physical relationship of movement to music and sight to sound.

“Traditionally the act of dance creation presupposed the choreographic outcome,” David Lahay, the company’s artistic director said in a press release. “However, more frequently today, ballet is a direct consequence of the interplay between the choreographer and the dancers with the consequential outcome unknown until the final moment of creation.”

The show will also include the world premiere of Gioconda Barbuto’s Capture.

Smithers is one of 13 communities who will see their spring show. Ballet Kelowna says that we joined the tour as last year, Deidre Tansey of Creative Roots drove a crew of her own dancers to the Terrace show. With a response like that, how could they not put on a show in Smithers?

Tansey was thrilled to note that not only would her dancers receive a discounted price to see the professional show, but that the company director will be giving a masters class to Creative Roots Intermediate (and above) ballet students the evening before, Apr. 6.

Tansey, along with Creative Roots dancers, will be selling dance tickets at the door. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Apr. 7 and tickets are also available from Mountain Eagle Books.
